  • Day 2: Phuentsholing to Thimphu (180 km / 6 Hours | Altitude: 2,320m)
  • Day 3: Thimphu Sightseeing – Culture, Heritage & Views
  • Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha & Wangdue (75 km / 3 Hours | Altitude: 1,300m)
  • Day 5: Punakha to Paro (125 km / 4.5 Hours | Altitude: 2,280m)
  • Day 6: Paro – Tiger’s Nest & Cultural Gems
  • Day 7: Paro – Phuentsholing – Bagdogra/NJP Departure

Let’s explore this beautiful kingdom, one magical day at a time.

Day 1: Arrive at Bagdogra/NJP and Transfer to Phuentsholing

Our Bhutan adventure begins as you arrive at Bagdogra Airport or NJP Railway Station. The drive to Phuentsholing gradually introduces you to the landscape shift, from the Indian plains to the rising Himalayan foothills.

Phuentsholing is more than just an entry town; it’s a cultural bridge between India and Bhutan. You’ll notice the architecture change, the pace slows down, and the atmosphere becomes noticeably calmer as you cross into Bhutan.

In the evening, visit Zangtho Pelri Lhakhang, a small but spiritually significant temple in the town center. As locals circumambulate the shrine with prayer beads in hand, you’ll feel the gentle rhythm of Bhutanese life. Later, take a relaxed walk through the local market. It’s a great way to ease into the journey, observing daily life, tasting local snacks, and simply soaking in the environment.

Overnight in Phuentsholing.

Day 2: Phuentsholing to Thimphu

After completing immigration formalities, your scenic drive to Thimphu begins. The road winds through lush forests, waterfalls, and mountain curves that offer stunning valley views at every turn.

En route, you’ll stop at Kharbandi Gompa, a peaceful monastery set amidst tropical gardens. From here, the panoramic views of the plains below are breathtaking — a perfect reminder that you’re climbing into the Himalayas.

As we ascend further, you’ll feel the air grow cooler and fresher. By the time you reach Thimphu, Bhutan’s capital city, you’ll notice how unique it feels. There are no traffic lights, buildings follow traditional architectural guidelines, and modern life blends seamlessly with heritage.

In the evening, take a leisurely stroll around Thimphu’s main street. Browse handicraft shops, cozy cafés, and local stores selling prayer flags and handmade textiles. It’s a relaxed introduction to Bhutan’s urban life, simple, clean, and culturally rich.

Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 3: Thimphu Sightseeing – Culture, Heritage & Views

Today is dedicated to exploring Thimphu’s spiritual, artistic, and cultural landmarks.

Your morning begins at the Memorial Chorten, where locals gather daily to pray. Watching elderly Bhutanese circle the chorten with prayer wheels spinning is a deeply grounding experience.

Next, visit the towering Buddha Dordenma statue at Kuensel Phodrang. Standing 169 feet tall, the statue overlooks the entire valley. The view from here is panoramic, mountains layered in the distance, prayer flags fluttering, and Thimphu quietly spread below.

A visit to the Takin Preserve introduces you to Bhutan’s unusual national animal, a creature that looks almost mythical. Then, at Simply Bhutan Museum, you don’t just observe culture, you participate. Try traditional archery, taste butter tea (Suja), and learn about daily Bhutanese life in an interactive setting.

In the afternoon, explore:

  • Sangaygang View Point for stunning valley views
  • The Institute for Zorig Chusum, where students train in Bhutan’s 13 traditional arts
  • Zilukha Nunnery, offering quiet spiritual energy
  • Centenary Farmers Market (if it’s the weekend)
  • Tashichho Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and monastic body

By the end of the day, you’ll begin to understand why Bhutan measures success in Gross National Happiness.

Overnight in Thimphu.

Day 4: Thimphu to Punakha & Wangdue

Today’s drive takes you over the iconic Dochula Pass (3,088m). If the weather is clear, you’ll witness a spectacular view of the Eastern Himalayan peaks. The 108 chortens at the pass create a powerful visual against the mountain backdrop.

Descending from Dochula, the climate changes; Punakha is warmer and more tropical compared to Thimphu.

Visit the magnificent Punakha Dzong, located at the confluence of the Pho Chhu and Mo Chhu rivers. With its whitewashed walls and intricate woodwork, it’s considered one of Bhutan’s most beautiful dzongs. Walking across the wooden cantilever bridge into the fortress feels like stepping back in time.

Later, take a short hike to Chimi Lhakhang, also known as the Fertility Temple. The walk through rice fields and small villages offers a glimpse into rural Bhutanese life.

You may also cross the long Punakha Suspension Bridge, gently swaying above the river. For adventure lovers, white river rafting is an exciting optional activity.

Overnight in Punakha/Wangdue.

Day 5: Punakha to Paro

After breakfast, drive back towards Paro via Dochula Pass.

On the way, visit Simtokha Dzong, the oldest fortress in Bhutan, built in 1629. Its walls hold centuries of history and religious significance.

Upon reaching Paro, the valley immediately feels serene and picturesque, surrounded by green fields and mountains.

Visit the National Museum (Ta Dzong), once a watchtower, now home to ancient artifacts, thangkas, and historical exhibits. Then explore Rinpung Dzong, dramatically located along the Paro River.

In the evening, wander through Paro town. It’s small, charming, and relaxed; the perfect place to enjoy a quiet dinner or shop for souvenirs.

Overnight in Paro.

Day 6: Paro – Tiger’s Nest & Cultural Gems

Today is the highlight of your 6 Nights 7 Days Bhutan Tour from Bagdogra, the hike to Tiger’s Nest Monastery (Taktsang).

Perched dramatically on a cliff at 3,120 meters, this sacred monastery is Bhutan’s most iconic landmark. The hike takes around 5 hours round-trip. It’s steady and rewarding rather than extreme. Along the way, you’ll pass pine forests draped with prayer flags and scenic viewpoints offering breathtaking valley views.

Reaching the monastery is a moment of triumph and awe. The silence, the wind, and the sheer vertical drop below create an unforgettable atmosphere.

After returning, visit the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang, one of Bhutan’s oldest temples. You may also choose to unwind with a traditional hot stone bath, a perfect way to soothe tired muscles after the hike.

Overnight in Paro.

Day 7: Paro – Phuentsholing – Bagdogra/NJP Departure

After breakfast, begin your drive back to Phuentsholing. The journey feels different now — familiar roads, but filled with new memories.

After completing exit formalities, continue to Bagdogra/NJP for your onward journey home, carrying with you the calm, clarity, and quiet joy that Bhutan leaves behind.
