Bum La Pass Permit Fee Update 2025: New ₹100 Per Person Charge from Tawang

Bum La Pass Permit Fee Update 2025: New ₹100 Per Person Charge from Tawang

If you are planning to visit Bum La Pass during your trip to Tawang, here’s a small update to keep in mind. The district authorities have recently introduced an additional fee of ₹100 per person for the Tawang – Bum La – Tawang leg.

This new fee is collected along with the usual charges when permits are processed. Travel to Bum La leg costs about Rs. 5,500-Rs.6,000. The important thing for you to know is that you don’t need to worry about applying or paying for it separately — as always, we at North East Explorers handle the entire permit process on your behalf.

What this essentially means is that the overall Bum La permit cost will now vary depending on the number of travelers in your group.

For example, if two people are traveling, the Bum La permit fee will be higher by ₹200; for a group of five, it will be higher by ₹500, and so on. Apart from this incremental change, the process remains exactly the same.

We are sharing this update simply to put it on record, so that travelers know in advance that this component exists and why the Bum La leg fee might appear slightly higher than before.

For those who are new to the region: the drive from Tawang to Bum La is one of the most memorable experiences of the entire journey. From frozen lakes and dramatic mountain landscapes to the chance of interacting with Army personnel at the Indo–China border, it is truly a highlight. Given the sensitivity of the area, permits have always been mandatory, and this additional per–person fee is part of the latest directive from the authorities.

So, while the new charge is modest, it is good to be aware of it as you plan your trip. Rest assured, we’ll continue to take care of the paperwork so you can focus on enjoying the experience.
