Wake up to a fresh morning and go for a stroll around your campsite. A guided jungle trek in the forests of Nameri is one of the best ways to start your day. After a delightful walk inside the jungle, along with your naturalist, come back for a relaxed breakfast. Then, head out for some adventure at the Jia Bhoreli River, around which Nameri is located. You can go river rafting and be back for a late lunch. Evening free.
3. Nameri To Kaziranga National Park [Jeep Safari in Kaziranga]
After breakfast, say goodbye to the forests of Nameri and head to the Kaziranga National Park, home to the famed one-horned rhinoceros. Reach Kaziranga before noon and head for a Jeep Safari in Kaziranga, to explore the diverse wildlife of the Kaziranga National Park from up close. On the jungle safari, you get to see different species of deer, boars, water buffalos, tuskers, jungle fouls, and different species varieties of birds, including the Hornbill!
After the Jungle safari, time permitting, visit the Kaziranga Orchid Park to get a taste of the local culture, among many other exciting things.

You can get right next to the one-horned rhinos whilst on the back of the elephants. Talk about seeing the animals up close.
After the safari and breakfast, it will be time to start the next leg of your journey. The journey to Meghalaya from Kaziranga National Park. It’s yet another beautiful drive, taking you through Assam’s countryside and then to the higher reaches of Meghalaya. On your way to Shillong, if it’s not dark already, you will stop by the gorgeous Umiam Lake. Otherwise, drive straight to your Khasi homestay, and we will meet the Umiam lake, on our way back.
5. Shillong to Cherrapunjee
Drive from Shillong after breakfast, to Meghalaya’s one of the most beautiful regions, Cherrapunjee. Also, famous for being the rainiest place on the planet.
Cherrapunjee is home to some of the most beautiful hills, valleys, open fields, waterfalls (mostly dry between Oct – April), and limestone caves. Simply put, Cherrapunjee is beautiful. As you enter the region, you will know why 🙂
Through the day today in this Meghalaya tour, you will explore verdant valleys, and visit some of the most gorgeous caves and waterfalls. But before you reach Cherrapunjee from Shillong, you will start the day by visiting today’s first place of interest, the Elephant Waterfalls.
It will take you at least about an hour to climb down and then come back up. On your way, you will be visiting some of the following places:
- Wah Kaba
- Mawdok View Point (also the option of zip-lining here except for Wednesdays)
- Seven sisters waterfalls
- Mawsmai caves
- Arwah caves
6. Cherrapunjee to Double Decker Living Root Bridge Trek and Back
One of the most exciting days of this Meghalaya tour, trek day!
Today you will trek to the famous double-decker living root bridges of Meghalaya. While the double-decker bridge is indeed a marvel itself, the trail that you take is no less enchanting.
Deep valleys, rickety hanging bridges, emerald natural pools, and tiny Khasi villages, you name it.
Not to mention how beautiful the trail is.
It will take you a full day today so you will only be back to your stay by evening. Tired and yet, rejuvenated 🙂 .
7. Cherrapunjee To Dawki and Mawlynnong
Today you will visit another very interesting part of Meghalaya. You will start by visiting the border town of Dawki, famous for the transparent waters (water is not transparent in the rainy season) of the Umngot River that forms the natural boundary between India and Bangladesh.
You can spend time taking a boat ride on the river and visit the ziro point, where people from both countries can visit.
From here, you will head to the tiny village of Mawlynnong. It gained fame after it was named the cleanest village in Asia. Truth be told, the village indeed stays true to the fame. Even though sometimes a little busy with visitors, the village is a great example of how cleanliness can be lived.
While at the village, slow down and take a walk around the village and discover the interesting surprises the village holds.
8. Mawlynnong To Shillong
While it is great exploring the remote parts of Meghalaya, Shillong, the capital city is no less interesting and is a must-visit when in Meghalaya. Hence, post a relaxed breakfast, you will start your journey back to Shillong.
Feel free to take random breaks to just sit back, relax, and soak in the surroundings. You will reach Shillong by evening. The evening is free to explore.
9. Shillong Local Tour
Today, a full day will be dedicated to visiting Shillong and it’s surroundings. Start by visiting the Don Bosco cathedral, followed by Don Bosco Museum (closed on Sundays). Thereafter, you can pick and choose from the following options to visit in Shillong:
- Ward’s Lake
- Airforce Museum
- Dylan’s cafe
- Laitlum canyons
No matter what you do during the day when in Shillong, the evening must be spent walking the most vibrant and busy city center at Police Bazar.
10. Shillong To Guwahati
Start the final leg of your return journey after a relaxed breakfast. Retrace the route that you had taken on your way up, albeit in darkness. This time, try not to miss even a bit of the beautiful scenery.
On your way down, stop by the beautiful Umiam lake and spend some time admiring its beauty.
From there, it’s about a 3-hour drive to Guwahati where you will be dropped, as per your preference.
Flyback with great memories from the North East of India 🙂
